Just watched Scott and Matt’s video addressing the negative feedback they’re getting about Adobe’s CS4 and Lightroom 2 upgrades. Many of the new features of Lightroom 2 are replicated in Photoshop CS4 and many who just purchased Lightroom 2 are not happy.
You can view the video here
I can see both sides – yes, you COULD use Photoshop CS4 for many of the enhancements that you may perform in LR2, BUT there is no way I’d want to only use Photoshop and ditch Lightroom.
But, there are some who may prefer to use Bridge and Photoshop rather than the Lightroom and Photoshop combo. If that’s you, then you may well regret the $s just spent on LR2.
Secondly, as Scott and Matt say in their video – of course Photoshop CS4 must complement the Lightroom updates. You’d be the first to complain if the two programs didn’t integrate!
MY VIEW – we’re all spending so very much money on our software these days that we want the best value for our hard earned $s. The advancements in photography and imaging software are amazing and if you’re anything like me, we MUST keep updating as the new stuff is very exciting.
Personally, I LOVE Lightroom 2. CS4 is on my shopping list, when I can afford it.
Like many in the creative industries, my clients don’t understand that my prices reflect costs such as software updates. Yes, the new software does much to time save, but it also has a learning curve. I enjoy that learning curve, lucky for me. Ultimately though, I need to find a way to recover the cost of the software, Scott’s fabulous books, AND the time to install, and learn how to use the new features.
Yep, that’s why there is now a “buy me a coffee” link on my sidebar!
