Splendour in the Grass 2008 Nightmare
Wow, QJump has excelled at making a LOT of people hate them!
I’m a computer nerd through and through, and it frustrated me!!!!
Here’s my QJump Story:
Registered at QJump the day before ticket sales, just in case….whew, that was a good call.
8am Tried to go to the site I’d bookmarked for Splendour tickets and couldn’t even get to it. Their customised 404 error message was in place to say they were too busy.

8.30am Managed to get in the queue, after many screen refreshes to try to get in. Screen refresh was only refreshing the custom 404, so I had to re-click on my bookmark, that worked. Opened the window in a second screen “just to be safe”.
8.35am Bumped off!!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!! Lame message that I’d refreshed more than 3 times and had to reconnect in 5 minutes.
WHERE WAS THE WARNING THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN? NOT ON ANY SCREEN THAT I HAD SEEN WHEN I WAS TRYING TO LOGIN AND MY COMPUTER REGISTERED THE REFRESHES. YES I REFRESHED, BUT THAT WAS BEFORE I HAD GOT INTO THE QUEUE. AND YES I HAD A SECOND WINDOW OPEN, THIS I FOUND OUT LATER WAS A BIG NO NO. SHEESH, TREAT US LIKE KIDDIES IN PRE-SCHOOL WHY DON’T YOU???????
I opened my backup browser, Firefox. I love having Firefox to open all the websites that IE7 destroys.
Finally I get in, very careful not to offend the Anti-Refresh Gods.
The pink progress bar of the queue drove me nuts for the next 2.5 hrs, each time it refreshed it was in a different place. Each 2nd refresh seems to be similar, but then it would drop you back near the beginning…..groan……. (yeah, they can refresh, but we can’t – go figure – where is the saving on the server?)
Finally I’m in!
I enter 4 lots of names and dobs for Splendour tickets, then same again for camping tickets.
Database Error………NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t surf away, but kept refreshing (it’s allowed now, duh) and eventually I got to the payment page with 9 minutes left on the clock.

YEAH, you only have 30 minutes to buy once you’re past the queue. But a huge number of people didn’t get through in 30 minutes because of the crashes.
Payment page, yay!
ANOTHER ERROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freaking out…….there’s over a grand on my credit card…………and it goes weird on me………arghhhhh

I emailed tech support. Kept refreshing and viola, it worked! HAPPY DANCE!!!
SUCCESS!!! I HAVE TICKETS!!
But I do feel really bad for those who didn’t make it.
The experience was really pathetic.
This morning I received a response to my tech support email. It’s the same mailout to everyone and has some standard faq style responses to a few of the difficulties.
Very poor really, it gives no help whatsoever to the people who didn’t have an order number emailed to them. I at least was grabbing screen saves so that I had a record of my payment ID when the bank error occurred.
Here is their email:

MY QUESTION
Why can we all connect to Internet Banking all over the country at the same time with no difficulty, but an event like this can’t even HIRE enough servers and serious grunt to handle a paltry 70,000 people?
