Nikon D3X backlash

Wow, Nikon have released the new D3x with a price tag of $7999.95 US, that’s $3,000 US more than the D3.

The differences are that the D3X has 24.5 megapixels against the D3 12.1, and the ISO range is from 100 to 1600, where the D3 is 200 to 6400.

There is an option to adjust ISO settings to something called Hi-2 which they say is 6400 equivalent.

But what is amazing is the consumer and reviewer backlash that’s going on.

Scott Kelby’s had another day of extremely negative comments, and Ken Rockwell’s trashed it with stuff like this “Even more underwhelming is that there is no significant pixels-per-second improvement over the old D3.”

But he still bought one!
He says: “OK, OK, you twisted my arm. I ordered one from Adorama, but only to test for you people. We’ll see how it stacks up to the Canon 5D Mark II, and then maybe I’ll toss the loser into the big blue bin at Goodwill to delight some thrift-store shopper. “

Ken’s added lots of donation buttons to the review, and finishes with an impassioned plug for $s.

Me? Well I’m still in love with my D700 and am supremely happy that I could buy it.
My credit card will be maxed out for a while…oops….

Yes, I can see why people will pay the extra dollars for the new D3x, but I can’t see it being a big seller.

I can see a market for X stickers, so you can do what Ken did, and transform the look of a D3 to a D3X.
*evil wicked grin*
